How to paste your listing into eBay

It takes about a minute. Do it on a computer: the eBay app can't edit the HTML of a description.

  1. 1

    Copy your listing

Click Copy HTML in Lystro. Your whole description is now on your clipboard.

  2. 2

    Open your listing on eBay

On a computer, create a new listing or revise an existing one. (The eBay app can't edit HTML descriptions.)

  3. 3

    Switch the description to HTML

In the Description section, switch the editor to HTML. It's usually a tab called “HTML” or a “<>” button. If you only see a plain text box, first choose the option to show all editing options.

  4. 4

    Paste

Click in the HTML box, select everything that's there (Ctrl+A, or ⌘A on a Mac) and paste (Ctrl+V or ⌘V).

  5. 5

    Check and save

Switch back to the normal view or use eBay's preview to check it, then list or save your item.

Fixing common problems

My images don't show

eBay only shows images from secure links that start with https://. The easiest fix is to use the photos already in your eBay listing: open the listing, right-click a photo, choose “Copy image address” and paste that link into Lystro. Any other image host works too if it gives a direct https:// link to the picture. Links to private folders, albums or sites that block sharing won't work.

The layout looks plain or the tabs don't switch

Some eBay views remove styling. Turn on Maximum compatibility in the Copy HTML menu: it writes every style inline and swaps tabs and the gallery for simple versions that work everywhere.

eBay says my listing has active content

Lystro never adds scripts, forms or embeds, so this usually means old code was left in the box. Select everything in the HTML view before pasting, so only your new listing is there.

It looks different in the eBay app

The app shows descriptions in a narrower view. Check the Phone preview in the Lystro editor: templates are built to stack neatly on small screens.

Can I edit it later?

Yes. Change your design in Lystro, copy it again, then revise your eBay listing and replace the HTML. Your designs and versions stay saved in your account.

Good to know

eBay search mostly uses your item title and item specifics, which you fill in on eBay itself. A clear, well-organised description helps buyers decide, and the Lystro SEO checker helps you get it right.
